Morgan and I have been great friends and colleagues since I entered the wedding planning business. She is a Celebrity Estate Manager and one of my favorite people. I love her spunky personality and ability to “Morganize” any situation (as her Maid of Honor put it during her toast). When she and Brian got engaged, she asked me to design her wedding. She wanted it RED, LOUD, and FUN. Inspired by Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days (www.oldspanishdays-fiesta.org), Morgan and Brian’s Wedding at the Santa Barbara Zoo (where Brian is the Director of Horticulture, www.sbzoo.org/weddings) was outside-the-box, unforgettable, and so much FUN! Morgan’s RED bouquet was created from bright red, organically grown flowers, all purchased at the local Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market (www.sbfarmersmarket.org). The bridesmaids carried red fans in lieu of flowers.
For the ceremony space, I used Mexican Tissue Flowers, Eucalyptus, and red seasonal additions. The gardens at the Santa Barbara Zoo provide such a beautiful setting for a wedding ceremony. In the middle of their processional, the traditional music stopped, and Morgan and her parents began to dance down the aisle as guests shook their maracas to upbeat music.
During Cocktail hour, guests were able to interact with the Zoo Animals (perks of the groom being in Zoo management). Guests also were able to ride the zoo train with a personalized twist: there were easels stationed around the tour with pictures of the bride and groom, from their first date to their engagement. The train conductors intermixed their story with the traditional zoo tour.
For the Reception, Guests enjoyed dinner and dancing as the sun set over beautiful Santa Barbara. For centerpieces, we used iron lanterns, moss-covered vases, and chemistry bottles with assorted red flowers. Morgan and Brian named each table after a different zoo animal. Intimate lounge areas were stationed around the perimeter with fire pits for guests to enjoy. I had a BLAST working with Morgan and Brian, and can't wait to see what the future holds for them. CHEERS to you both!
